DIY: Natural deodorant (spray)

Hello everyone!
If, like me, you hate the chemical-laden, store-bought deodorants,  you can make your own natural deodorant from scratch – in both solid and spray form.  Since I’ve already posted a DIY solid deodorant recipe, I want to share my favourite spray deodorant formula, too.  This one is way easier and quicker to make.  Enjoy!

Ingredients:
  • 60 ml (2 fl oz) witch hazel (astringent)
  • 12 drops of essential oil - Choose an oil with antibacterial and anti-fungal properties such as, sweet orange, tea tree, lemongrass, lavender, etc.

Method:
  1. Pour your ingredients into a spray bottle and screw the top back on.
  2. Shake well before use.
It's super simple to make and it really does work!

Have you ever tried using a DIY deodorant?  Do you prefer a solid or a spray formula?

Have a great day!

DIY: Vegan solid perfume

Hello everyone!

A few years ago I posted a DIY recipe for solid perfume.  In that recipe I used beeswax (back then I was not a vegan), so today I decided to give you a vegan alternative.

Ingredients:
  • 2 tsp candelilla wax or soy wax
  • 2 tsp sweet almond oil
  • 40-50 drops of your favourite essential oil(s)
Note - floral scents are uplifting and romantic, vanilla is warm and sweet, and wood scents can be grounding and calming.

Method:
  1. Melt wax and carrier oil in microwave.  Or if you want to double boil, follow the method in this post:  DIY: Solid perfume
  2. Add essential oil(s).
  3. While your perfume mix is still liquid, pour it into the tins.
  4. Wait until the mix cools and hardens, before moving the tins or closing the lids.
Solid perfumes are easy to package, carry, and re-apply; also handmade perfumes make wonderful gifts.

DIY: Skin lightening serum

Hello everyone!
As many of you may already know, I struggled with acne for years.  I have spent a lot of time looking for ways to clear up my acne.  What eventually helped me clear my skin was a clean, vegan diet and using natural, homemade skincare products.  However, I'm still dealing with acne scars on my face.
Before I became vegan, I used honey and yogurt (like my DIY: Greek yoghurt, oatmeal and honey facial mask and my DIY: Micro-dermabrasion pasteto help fade acne scars and both ingredients work really well, but now I'm only using plant-based ingredients.
Today I want to share the all-natural, vegan facial serum I'm currently using.  If you have any form of hyperpigmentation on your skin, you are going to love this DIY!
Ingredients:
  • 1 tbs sweet almond oil
  • 2 drops of lemon essential oil
  • 4 drops of sandalwood essential oil

Sweet almond oil is a wonderful carrier oil and it’s been used for ages to lighten and brighten skin.

Lemon essential oil is well-known for its skin-brightening effects.  Lemon juice is also very effective.

Sandalwood essential oil is a skin lightening, skin brightening oil.  It has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.  It is also high in antioxidants that can help reduce damage caused by free radicals, which promote ageing.

Method:
  1. Combine ingredients in a glass bottle (preferably with a dropper).
  2. Gently turn the bottle to allow the oils to mix well.
  3. Use 3-4 drops on damp, clean skin before bedtime.
  4. Optional - Moisturise as usual.
  5. Use every day for best results.

Notes:
  • Lemon essential oil  increases photosensitivity - you need to protect your skin from the sun while using this serum!
  • This serum will not get rid of indentations or protrusions left behind by acne.  It will only fade the flat red or brown dots left behind by pimples aka post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Have a great day!

February 2017 favourites

Hello everyone!

I haven't written a favourites post in a while, almost 6 months to be exact, oops!  This was my last favourites post: End of summer favourites, back in September 2016.  But I have been trying out and loving some new things recently so today I want to share my current beauty essentials.  I'm absolutely obsessed with the four beauty products I mention below,  these are all great products that also happen to be very affordable!  Check them out...

Denman Scalp Massage Brush

I use this brush in the shower to massage my scalp with the soft plastic pins while shampooing and to detangle my hair while conditioning.  I also use it to distribute my leave-in products evenly.  I even use this scalp massager when I colour my hair to make sure I remove any hair dye from my scalp.

Cien All-In-One BB Cream  (light)

This product aims to correct imperfections, even out skin tone, soften the skin, reduce wrinkles and provide 24h hydration.  I have to say I'm very impressed with this BB cream, it matches my skin tone, blends really easily and evens out my complexion.  My skin looks hydrated and healthier after application.

Silicone Face Cleansing Brush

This silicone brush is the best face cleansing brush I tried thus far.  It is extremely soft and flexible, making it very gentle on the skin.  If you’re new to cleansing tools and want to give one a try, this silicone pad is the easiest to use and the most budget-friendly.  The tiny bristles massage the debris out of the pores, while the larger bumps exfoliate and soften the skin.  I use the larger bumps to exfoliate my nose and chin.  Right now it's on sale at only $1.99 - Silicone Facial Cleaning Brush with Box.  I got one for my mum and she love it as well

Tinkle Eyebrow Razors

These razors are meant to sculpt eyebrows and remove peach fuzz and that's precisely why I use them.  Since I started growing back my eyebrows, a few years ago, I stopped tweezing altogether and only shape them using these eyebrow razors: Tinkle Eyebrow Razors.  It's a very quick and simple way to shape your brows.
