The soothing properties of basil

Hello everyone!
As you know, I strongly believe in using natural ingredients for DIY hair and skincare recipes.  Today’s post is about  basil; a perfect active ingredient for acne prone skin.
Basil is known for its soothing and toning properties, and can calm down blemishes and irritated skin.

Ingredients:
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Boiling water

 Method 1: Toner
  1. Steep a handful of basil leaves in a cup of boiling water for 10 to 20 minutes.
  2. Remove leaves, cool the basil tea.
  3. Apply toner to your problem areas with a cotton ball.
  4. Keep the toner refrigerated and discard once it becomes cloudy.

You could also use organic basil tea.

Method 2: Facial steaming
  1. Steam your face over a bowl of hot water combined with a small handful of basil leaves, for about 10 minutes.
  2. If your skin is very oily, squeeze half a lemon/lime into it.
  3. Follow up with a face mask or splash cold water/toner on your face, or gently rub an ice cube wrapped in a towel over your face to close the pores.

 Tip:

Treating acne with basil is not for everyone.  The herb may occasionally cause allergic reactions (skin rashes) when applied topically.  Always  patch test  before using basil on your face.
  • Dab a small amount of "basil tea" on the pulse of your wrist or the crook of your elbow.
  • Leave it unwashed for a period of 24- 48 hours.
  • Watch for signs of an allergic reaction. (redness or rash)

Happy Valentine’s Day ♥

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to wish you all a happy Valentine’s Day, whether you’re sharing it with the love of your life, your family or your best friend.

We come to love not by finding a perfect person, but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly - Sam Keen, To Love and Be Loved.

And a very happy V-Day to all those who are spending the day alone... What’s so odd about spending “the holiday of love” with the one you should love most: yourself?

You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere.  You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection.  - Buddha

Natural remedies for dark eye circles

Hello everyone!

Do you have dark under eye circles yet you do not want to try expensive creams?  Then save your money and head to your kitchen!

Natural remedies for dark eye circles:

Tomato paste
Mix 1 teaspoon of fresh tomato juice and ½ a teaspoon of lemon juice.  Apply it gently on the skin under your eyes with a cotton ball and let it rest for 10 minutes.  Rinse thoroughly with water.

Cucumber or Potato
You can apply any of these two on your eyes to diminish darkness and swelling.  Slice the cucumber or grate the potato before putting it onto the skin around your eyes.  You may also use the juice of either one of them and dab it on the skin with a cotton ball.

Tea bags
Simply put on a warm or cold teabag on each of your eye and let it rest there for a few minutes.

Almond oil
Regularly massaging the under eye area with almond oil is one of the best natural remedies for getting rid of under eye circles because it promotes circulation.  Leave the nourishing oil on your skin overnight.

Ice cubes
This will instantly reduce the appearance of dark circles and puffiness around the eyes.  Read The beauty benefits of ice for more information.

Crushed mint
Fresh mint has a cooling effect which immediately soothes tired eyes while getting rid of dark circles.  Put crushed mint leaves over the skin around your eyes and let them rest there for few minutes.

Tips:
  • Stop smoking!  Smoking contributes to poor circulation.
  • Drink around 8-10 glasses of water a day to promotes proper circulation of blood around your eyes.
  • Aside from the remedies mentioned, it is also important that you get enough sleep.
  • Be reminded that not all of these remedies will work for you.  So I suggest you try out a few and see which ones work best!
  • These remedies will not make your dark circles disappear overnight.  So, be patient and continue the natural treatment for at least a few weeks.
  • In certain individuals, dark circles can only be reduced but cannot be removed completely.
I hope you find this helpful!

DIY: Natural anti-wrinkle

Hello everyone!
If you are starting to notice fine lines around the eyes (crow’s feet), mouth or forehead, try this natural remedy before splurging on expensive beauty products!

Do you know that grape juice is a natural anti-wrinkle?  Grapes contain natural oils and fruit acids that can help to tighten the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines over time.

How to use:
  • Mash a handful of green grapes to obtain the juice.
  • Use a cotton ball to apply the grape juice to fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Rinse after 20 minutes with warm water and pat your face dry with a towel.
  • For best results, repeat this treatment three times a week.
Grapes contain alpha hydroxy acids that assist the skin in exfoliation.  Removing the dead skin cells from the surface can drastically reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

I hope you find this helpful!
